                Discussed status of lease negotiations, publicity of recent progress on the project, grant work, fund raising and National Historic Register application.  Also discussed the possibility of a lease signing event and open house at the building.

  • 30) Deed history and probate inventory research

    30)   Deed history and probate inventory research - December 27, 2000
                Walt Landgraf continues his ongoing deed research of the Squires Tavern lot.  He meets with Fred Warner to review the deed history and probate inventory of Bela Squires.  This information will be used for the National Register application.  The deed history for the land can now be documented from the present all the way back to lot 42 laid out to Isaac Bissell in the fourth land division of the Town of Barkhamsted in 1760.

  • 29) State agrees to National Register of Historic Places application

    29)    State agrees to National Register of Historic Places application - December 27, 2000
                Historical Society receives a letter from Pam Adams of the State Department of Environmental Protection giving permission (as owners of the property) to the Historical Society to apply for National Register of Historic Places recognition.  The actual application process may take about four months.

    28)   Squires Tavern committee special meeting - December 20, 2000
                The Squires Tavern committee reviews the lease draft from the State.  Several points are discussed and some minor changes are recommended.  The lease issues will be discussed with Barkhamsted First Selectman Mike Fox and then with the State.  Also discussed are insurance issues, Walt Landgraf's continuing research of the deed history of the building, communications with John Curtis, National Register for Historic Places status and the bat issue.

    27)   Removed junk from carriage shed and yard - December 19, 2000
                Walt Landgraf and Project Green workers clean out the carriage shed and the yard and dispose of the trash and abandoned items not worth saving. 

  • 26) Historical Society receives draft of lease from State!

    26)   Historical Society receives draft of lease from State! - December 15, 2000
                Committee chair Leslie Cosgrove receives the State DEP's draft of the lease of the Squires Tavern building.  This 30 year lease, which will be between the State and the Town of Barkhamsted, will be reviewed by the Town and the Historical Society.

  • 25) Investigation of house interior features

    25)   Investigation of house interior features - December 12, 2000
                Walt Landgraf, Harriet Winchenbaugh and Fred Warner investigate some of the interior features of the house.  They uncover the fireplace in the kitchen and find that it is probably too small to have served as the main cook fireplace during the early 1800's.  They also confirm that the floor of the attic has insulation.
