    Five volunteers work on the inside of the building cleaning floors, door and window trim.  The water system is partially turned on.  (Charlie Lynes working on the floors, Walt Landgraf, Dave Ravasio and Harriet Winchenbaugh washing doors and trim.).

    Review status of the State lease which has been approved by the town, discuss building insurance issues, work on the town wide mailing project and the planned celebration event now scheduled for July 15.

    55)  Squires Tavern garden work starts - May 18, 2001
    Kim McManus, with help from Fred Warner, starts work on the period garden near the Squires Tavern building.  Beds are worked up and walk ways laid out.

    Amy Connolly completes a set of floor plans of the Squires Tavern.  These will be invaluable for planning and restoration work on the building.

    Harriet, Walt, Leslie and Ted meet with Laurie Rayner, Associate Director of the Connecticut Humanities Council to gain insight on grant possibilities and to introduce Laurie to the Squires Tavern project.

    Four volunteers put in a couple of hours at various jobs at the Squires Tavern, including more clean-up tasks inside, some brush cutting outside and removing grass from the stone walk leading to the north and west doors.

    At a town meeting attended by approximately 50 residents, a motion to authorize the first selectman to sign a lease for the Squires Tavern from the State Department of Environmental Protection is unanimously approved!  We are getting close to the end of a five year process to secure the future of this historic building.  PROGRESS!  Photo below shows Walt Landgraf providing information on the Squires Tavern project at the town meeting
