    92)  Squires Tavern work party - September 19, 2001
                     Walt and Dave lead a work party to clean the attic and sections of the second floor of the Tavern.  Several bags of bat droppings are removed from the attic.  Nasty work!

  • 91) Receipt of the $100,000 grant check!

    91)  Receipt of the $100,000 grant check! - September 15, 2001
                     Leslie Cosgrove announces that the $100,000 grant check from the State Office for Planning & Management.  One of the requirements of the grant is that these funds be utilized before June 30, 2002, which helps explain the efforts to complete major repair and restoration work now in progress.

  • 90) Squires Tavern committee meeting

    90)  Squires Tavern committee meeting - September 15, 2001
                     Major issues: reviewed work done so far and priority work to be done with grant money in the next six months, also comprehensive discussion on how the renovation work should proceed and how to update the strategic plan.

  • 89) Chimney work and contractor contacts

    89)  Chimney work and contractor contacts - September 14, 2001
                     During the week, masonry contractor Bill Parsons has made significant progress on chimney repairs.  He has removed much of the upper portion of the main chimney (which needs to be rebuilt) and has inspection the ell chimney which he believes can be saved.  Walt and Dave continue to put in a lot of time talking to contractors relating to the bid work on the other projects.

    88)  Meeting with Farmington River Coordinating Committee - September 13, 2001
                     Members of the Squires Tavern committee meet with FRCC members at the Squires Tavern.  FRCC expressed an interest in supporting the project and the possibility of sharing space in the building.  FRCC has indicated the possibility of grants and/or financial support for restoration work and future programs or displays at the Squires Tavern.

  • 87) Contractor bids and more specs

    87)  Contractor bids and more specs - September 12, 2001
                     Over the last week Walt and Dave have spent a lot of time talking to potential contractors and receiving and reviewing contractor paperwork associated with the roof and chimney bids.  Also, Walt and Dave have finalized specs for exterior painting and for heating and plumbing work.  These were done with input from town officials and from a several Squires Tavern committee members.  These "requests for proposals" will be published in area newspapers.

  • 86) Fireplaces exposed

    86)  Fireplaces exposed - September 11, 2001
                     Walt and Dave lead a work party to expose the fireplace in the present kitchen area and to open up more of the fireplace located in the ell. The kitchen fireplace had been completely walled over by the State DEP.  Both fireplaces were cleaned up.  Moved bricks to the back of the building.
