    197)   Squires Tavern work party - June 15, 2002
                     Volunteers work on preparations for plastering including scraping ceiling paint, removing wall paper and removing some newly discovered sheetrock.  Later in the day, Walt, Ted and Linne mark locations for interior lights that will be wired in by the electrician.  Note- earlier in the week, volunteer Mike Ansaldi continued work on telephone and computer network wiring to the office room.

  • 196) Former Squires Tavern resident visits

    196)   Former Squires Tavern resident visits - June 14, 2002
                     Warren Whitney, retired DEP ranger and former resident at the Squires Tavern drops by and provides more information on the building.  Warren also provides some old interior photos of the renovation work done by the State DEP during 1969.

  • 195) Squires Tavern committee meeting

    195)  Squires Tavern committee meeting -  June 12, 2002
                     The committee continued to work on the overall plan for restoring the Squires Tavern, including the near term priorities.  Some of the priorities are completing work necessary prior to plastering, plastering itself, completing the office room, planning for the archival storage space, completing heating system upgrade, restoring floors, addressing landscape issues, interior painting and establishing an exhibit philosophy.

  • 194) Squires Tavern contractor work

    194)   Squires Tavern contractor work - week ending June 8, 2002
                     Ed Kostak installs metal studs around the fireplaces in the ell.  These are required by fire code and will support the blueboard and plaster which will be added later in the summer.  Masonry work by Bill Parsons is nearing completion on the main chimney.  He has also completed the "floor" of the back parlor fire place.  Bill Parsons and Walt inspect the furnace chimney, where cracked tile and loose bricks have been discovered.  Walt spent some time with Electrician Bob Morse going over the specs for the final phase of wiring that will be done before the plaster goes up.

  • 193) Squires Tavern work party

    193)   Squires Tavern work party - June 5, 2002
                     Volunteers work on preparations for plaster work and also show around visitors from the Hartford Courant.  Earlier in the week, Walt, Fred and Ted journeyed to the Period Lighting Co. in northern Massachusetts to study lighting fixtures that will be appropriate for the Squires Tavern.

    192)  Squires Tavern committee meeting -  June 1, 2002
                     Farmington River Coordinating Committee president Pat Keener attends the meeting and announces that FRCC has made a substantial commitment in funding to the Squires Tavern project.  In addition to supporting the restoration, the FRCC will share the office room with the Historical Society.  The two groups start to make progress toward a partnership that will benefit both organizations.  Other issues discussed include a grant application for $25,300 made to the Torrington Area Foundation for Public Giving and work on the Master Development Plan for the tavern.
