277) Stenciling the walls in the front parlor - September 29, 2004
Volunteers Linne Landgraf and Sharon Lynes continue to work on the wall stencils in the front parlor of the Squire's Tavern. Throughout the summer a lot of research and planning has been done on the stencil patterns and layout. The patterns are based on original stenciling discovered under layers of paint in one corner of the front parlor and on research done on patterns used by the original artist in other buildings including another former tavern in Barkhamsted. The recreated stenciling has transformed the front parlor and added an early 19th century flavor to one of the "fancy" rooms of the tavern where the public was entertained over 180 years ago.
