Old Home Day 2009 - 230 year anniversity celebration of Barkhamsted's Incorporation.
Old Home Day is the traditional celebration of Barkhamsted's birthday and we celebrated in style this September 13th. This is a tradition that goes back to the original Old Home Day held in 1879 which marked the 100th anniversary of Barkhamsted's incorporation as a Connecticut town.
We had a pretty impressive turnout, with short speeches by First Selectman Don Stein and State Representative John Rigby. John grew up in Barkhamsted Center and now lives in Colebrook. A pot luck lunch was enjoyed at the Barkhamsted Center Church, then all in attendance posed on the front steps of the Church for the customary group photo. Many of those attending enjoyed a walking tour of historic Barkhamsted Center including a visit to the sites on the shore of the Barkhamsted Reservoir.
The day ended with the Historical Society's annual meeting held in the Center School.
