This photo shows the Pleasant Valley bridge in the river opposite near where the drive-in movie theater is now located. In January 1891, it was taken out by the ice and high water and washed downstream in pieces. The bridge was the old wood type that frequently was damaged or destroyed by ice flows or floods because they were constructed with a pier located mid-stream, making it more vulnerable to damage. This style of bridge was probably very similar to those constructed in Pleasant Valley and elsewhere in town during most of the 1800s.
